Cowards for "Peace"

From the March 30 edition of the Indianapolis Star comes this story about a monument in downtown Indy:

"Vandals left the Medal of Honor Memorial looking like it had been through its own battle Tuesday, and repairs are expected to take at least six weeks to complete.

"Memorial officials estimate repairs could cost $6,000 to $8,000 in materials alone...

"Created to look like glass sails that glow at night against the city's Downtown skyline as a backdrop, the concept of the memorial came from John Hodowal, the former chairman of IPALCO Enterprises. He, along with his wife, was overcome by images of these men after reading a story about a Medal of Honor gathering.

"The dedication of the memorial was timed to coincide with the city's 1999 Memorial Day activities and drew nearly 100 Medal of Honor recipients and thousands of spectators."

The memorial was defaced with a spray painted "peace" sign, Valentine-shaped heart, obscenties directed at Indiana governor Mitch Daniels, and the traditional sign of anarchists (a circle with an A inside).

Should the authorites ever find the sniveling bastards who defaced this monument, no appropriate measure should be spared in punishing them. One would not mind a public flogging or the butt end of a rifle to their smirking faces, but that would probably seem a bit too draconian for the pansies that inhabit our society and advocate for the rights of the justly accused. But some measure of public shame and scorn should be visited upon these cowards, who abused the freedom given to them and maintained in part by those who are honored by this memorial.

Oppose the war, hate the military, disparage those who sacrficed for their countrymen, associate the president of the United States with the Nazis, do whatever you want to proclaim to the world that the march of freedom is "not in your name." Use your "creative talents" to make signs spelling America with three Ks, portraying the President as a baboon, and constructing flag-draped coffins out of cardboard. But do it out in the open. Say what you want to say in public and be man enough to endure the criticism of those who disagree with your childish ignorance. Leave the buildings, monuments, and places of honor alone. They are not yours to deface.

If it is not enough to confine your "voice" to the mere spectacle of public protest and you insist upon defacing such things, do so in broad daylight, not under the safety of dark skies and hidden corners. Do so in front of some soldiers that are home on leave or perhaps some police officers. Better yet, do so in front of a bunch of Greatest Generationals at the next American Legion convention in Indianapolis. Even at their advanced age, they would still kick your ass and we would all love to see it.
